Ron’s community service started in 1975. While working for the Board of Education he ran the Drop-in Centre for youth from junior school to high school students at night while doing crowd control in the cafeteria for lunches and events by day. Once he turned 16, he worked throughout his high school years for Parks and Recreation, Ontario Housing Corporation (OHC), and Jamaican Canadian Association (JCA) assisting in recreational sports, life skills, education, and mentorship while still with the School Board. In his final year at Westview Secondary, he served as Vice President of (CCAPA CLUB) Caribbean Canadian American Progressive Association.
After high school, Ron worked for Mel Lastman, the former Mayor of North York, on the Race and Ethnic Relation Committee as a liaison bridging disconnect between the community, the police and the mayor’s office. He was instrumental in receiving funding for the Youth Employment Services in Jane and Finch.
Ron’s community involvement continued for years to come. In 1995, he was one of the founding members of Black Voices Magazine along with other pivotal communal experiences.
More recently, Ron has held the position of Chair for the Kingsview Free Methodist, Church Christmas Celebration Committee and has assisted with the church’s Mission Team in the Dominican Republic through the Canadian Families’ Sponsorship Program.
To date, Ron currently serves on the Break Free Family Centre Board of Directors, where he provides governance support for the organization.
